What is solar energy, and how does it work?

Solar panels turn sunlight into electricity for your home. Any power you don't use immediately is sent back to the grid, helping offset the electricity you buy from your utility.

Updated this week

Solar panels collect sunlight and convert it into electricity using photovoltaic cells. Your home uses that electricity first, reducing what you buy from the utility. If your system produces more than you need at that moment, the extra energy flows through your meter and out to the grid.

Depending on your utility's policies, you may receive credits for this excess energy, helping lower your bill.

Your PlugPV system also includes a monitoring platform so you can see how much power your home is generating over time.
